Our regional hospital is a non-profit corporation governed by an elected board of trustees composed of area citizens who serve as unpaid volunteers. Acute (inpatient) care

The 90-bed inpatient care facility at Davis Memorial Hospital is staffed with RN's, LPN's, PCA's and other healthcare professionals who work as a team in the care of medical, surgical and special care patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric, as well as childbirth patients. Inpatient services include, but are not limited to, internal nutrition and nutrition assessments, patient education and patient and family counseling, intake/output monitoring, cardiopulmonary, vascular laboratory, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech/swallowing therapy, and wound care.

Medical and nursing staff

Davis Memorial Hospital has a physician base of more than 40 board-certified or board-eligible physicians in a variety of major medical specialties. These include radiology/nuclear medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, family practice, general dentistry, urology, anesthesiology, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, oral/maxillofacial surgery, orthopedics and general surgery, medical and radiation oncology, podiatry, ophthalmology, cardiology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, pathology, neurology, allergy, dermatology, nephrology, oncology, psychology, pulmonology, and sports medicine. Highly skilled, well-trained nurses and technicians combined with Davis Memorial's up-to-date equipment means the best care for all patients--from those hospitalized for routine procedures to the critically ill.

Emergency department

The emergency department provides prompt diagnosis, excellent treatment and courteous care to the residents of several counties. The staff consists of six specially trained emergency physicians, plus experienced RN's and LPN's certified in ACLS, BTLS, PALS, and CPR. Along with immediate treatment for medical/surgical emergencies, the staff is also available for treatment of chronic medical problems, minor illnesses and injuries around the clock.

Surgery

Davis Memorial surgical services include, but are not limited to, antibiotic therapy, blood transfusions, chemotherapy, elective surgeries, endoscopies and minor excisions, general surgery, lithotripsy, and orthopedics. Our surgical team of doctors, anesthesiologists, and nurses perform day surgeries and those which require a longer hospital stay. Monthly, surgical services performs more than 200 day surgery procedures and an average of 350 surgeries. DMH has two pediatric med/surgery units.

Diagnostic and laboratory technology

Experienced technicians staff Davis Memorial's laboratory and radiology departments around the clock. Modern diagnostic equipment includes a helical CT scanner, a nuclear imaging system, an echocardiography unit, high-volume Hitachi 912 and 911 chemistry analyzers and Acuson ultrasound systems. A mobile magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner and a mobile lithotripsy unit come regularly to the hospital. Davis Memorial's mammography imaging units are certified by the American College of Radiologists. Teleradiology equipment enables doctors to transmit X-rays to and confer with radiology specialists of Radiological Physician Associates, Inc., at any time. Bone densitometry is a simple, safe, noninvasive and painless procedure that can be performed at Davis Memorial Hospital in five to 20 minutes.

Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization

Diagnostic cardiac catheterization gathers information on heart function, which can be valuable for early detection and treatment of heart disease. It is an excellent tool that can gauge the adequacy of blood supply through the coronary arteries, blood pressures, blood flow throughout the chambers of the heart, and provide X-rays of the hearts ventricles or arteries.

Diagnostic cardiac caths are primarily done as an outpatient procedure, and most patients are able to return home within six hours of the procedure. Results of the test are discussed with the patient before they are discharged.

Bone densitometry is a simple, safe, noninvasive and painless procedure that can be performed at Davis Memorial Hospital in five to 20 minutes. Bone densitometry is useful in diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, which can lead to debilitating fractures.

The Cardiac and Vascular Diagnostic Center

Vascular testing in Davis Memorial's state-of-the-art Cardiac and Vascular Diagnostic Center is an easy, non-invasive way to document arterial or venous disease. Cardiac rehabilitation

Davis Memorial Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation program helps persons who have had a heart attack, bypass surgery, or chronic stable chest pain get on the right track for heart health. Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation is an individualized, monitored exercise program that begins at each person's level of fitness with the goal of higher levels of activity. Patients with a physician referral may enter the program at any time.

An exercise physiologist and a registered nurse monitor blood pressure and heart rate and administer an electrocardiogram during each person's exercise. Educational sessions, offered at no extra charge to cardiac rehabilitation patients, help with lifestyle changes to control heart disease and risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and lack of exercise. Other topics include nutrition, managing stress, and smoking cessation. Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation is usually reimbursable by Medicare and most private insurance companies. Physical therapy and rehabilitation

The Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center at Davis Memorial serves area residents on an inpatient and outpatient basis, providing sports injury and long-term physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and wound care, as well as other services. Our occupational therapists help patients adjust to life after stroke, motor vehicle accident, surgery or illness. Certified speech/language pathologists provide evaluation and treatment of problems related to speech, language and swallowing. Pain Management

Our Pain Management Center is now open three full days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The clinic, which is located on the first floor of DMH, is operated under the medical direction of anesthesiologist Mohamed Fahim, M.D., Ph.D.

Pain management specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic pain, including conditions that begin after an injury or trauma, such as a fall or an auto accident which continues after the injury or trauma has healed, as well as conditions caused by a neurological dysfunction of the central or peripheral nervous system. Back pain and neck pain are examples of the common painful conditions.

Sleep Disorders

Davis Sleep Solutions, a department of Davis Memorial Hospital, offers professional help and treatment for people with sleep disorders. These types of disorders have been linked to physical, emotional and psychological problems including hypertension, dibetes, obesity, impotence and depression. Often when the sleep disorder is alleviated, the other problem corrects itself or becomes much easier to treat.

Pulmonary rehabilitation

The goal of pulmonary rehabilitation classes is to help patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cope with their disease, increase their levels of physical activity and stay healthy. Pulmonary rehabilitation classes are offered at Davis Memorial Hospital for people suffering from (COPD), including emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, black lung, silicosis, asbestosis and related respiratory diseases. The series of 11 classes is conducted in a six-week period. Participation requires a physician referral. The pulmonary rehabilitation team includes an exercise physiologist, a respiratory therapist, a nurse, a dietician and a pharmacist.
